At Opals & Ashes, we understand that memorial jewellery serves as a profound connection to loved ones who have passed. Each piece we create is a blend of artistry, craftsmanship, and deep respect for the memories it represents. Here’s an insight into our meticulous creation process:
Conceptual Design
Every piece begins with a simple sketch. Our talented designers translate emotions and memories into visual concepts using pencil and paper. These initial sketches are then transformed into detailed digital models with advanced software, allowing for precision and the flexibility to customise designs to individual preferences.
Wax Modelling and Casting
Once the design is finalised, we produce a wax model of the jewellery. This model is sent to our trusted casting house, where it undergoes the traditional lost wax casting process. In this method:
• The wax model is encased in a mould.
• The wax is melted away, leaving a hollow cavity.
• Molten precious metal—be it sterling silver or gold—is poured into the cavity, forming the jewellery piece.
This technique ensures each piece is both durable and exquisitely detailed.
Incorporating Ashes and Opals
Back in our Manchester workshop, the cast piece is meticulously hand-finished. We then blend a small portion of the provided ashes with crushed opals in the chosen colour. This mixture is carefully set into the jewellery, creating a vibrant and lasting tribute. The use of high-quality resin ensures the inlay is both beautiful and enduring.
Polishing and Quality Assurance
The final step involves polishing the piece to a radiant shine, enhancing both its appearance and tactile feel. Each item undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure it meets our exacting standards before it is packaged and sent to its new home.
Choosing Opals & Ashes means entrusting us with a part of your cherished memories. We honour this trust by dedicating our skills and hearts to crafting ashes jewellery that serves as a lasting tribute to your loved ones.
Wishing you all the best
